Playing the 8th Notes, Crazy 8ths

Full Distance Down with Full Count

The Full Distance is the first part to learn. The Full Distance is governed by the number of beats in a measure. With Crazy 8ths the Full Distance is made up of eight individual beats and is eight beats long. These eight beats are picked with Rhythm Pick and are picked one after another in one direction either going down or coming up. The Full Distance is accomplished by picking all eight beats.
The full distance is governed by the number of beats in a measure. With common timing  C   there are 4 beats in a measure, these 4 beats equal the full count.

Full Count  =  A Total of 8 Notes

1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

This Method playing the 8th notes, Crazy 8th, is a picking Technique. This New picking Technique will focus on picking the strings of the Guitar with numbers of picks. Picking the strings with numbers of picks enables the advancement to a new level of picking. This new level will introduce, picking the Running Beats, picking the Arrangements of Running Beats, picking the Belts of Running Beats and much more. All of these individual picking pieces or picking instructions, comes together and gives support to a footing that sits under a foundation or progression of chords. This footing will instruct and assign picking instructions to each part or each measure in a tune or song. These picking instructions " footing " are merged in to a progression of chords that brings rhythm itself in to a New level. This New level is exciting and full of energy.

Directions:

Start Rhythm pick at any of the top three strings on your Guitar, use the Em chord. With the first pick on a three member model push the pick down across the strings with an even slow speed so picks are picking the strings and notes are individual sounding one after another. Pick the strings one after another in a stop go stop go manner. Use a stop go stop go motion with your hand and pick as they travel down across picking the strings. Pick the strings and voice count " 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + " this equals eight notes or eight beats, then come to a stop. That is picking the full distance down with a full count eight beats. Practice picking this slow with an even speed counting the full count with the notes as they are being picked and they are sounding, one and two and three and four and, Pick the strings one after another in a smooth and even manner keeping in time and rhythm. Practice picking this full count or full distance over and over . Make this a daily practice.

Picking the eight individual 8th Beats in a smooth and even manner creates a Run of 8th Beats. This Run of 8th Beats is eight beats long and all eight individual 8th Beats in the run are equal to each other in there count and value.

Lesson Assignment:
Practice picking the full distance downward with the Em chord, counting with your notes as they are sounding 1+2+3+4+ then Stop. Practice over and over. Make it a Daily practice.

Practice picking the Full Distance 8 notes down with these simple Tunes. The long arrow in the measure
Represents the full distance picking downward.  Some tunes will not have 8 notes picked from the measure, usually the last note is silent but counted in the timing. This is optional. With this tune the last note is silent. Now the count changes from 1+2+3+4+, 8 beats to 1+2+3+4, 7 beats. The last + is an 8th rest and is not picked but counted in the timing. Use this time from the 8th rest to bring the pick up to start down again. This makes it easier to keep time.
